Spoiled

CUSTOMER
This milk is past its expiration date.

CASHIER
Oh, thanks. We'll toss that out.

CUSTOMER
No, no, I want to buy it.

CASHIER
What?

CUSTOMER
I want to buy this milk. Can I get a discount because it's expired?

CASHIER
No, is there no milk left on the shelf? We should have some--

CUSTOMER
Yeah, there's other milk, I just wanted to know if I could get this for cheaper, since it's spoiled.

CASHIER
Well, no, we're not allowed to sell spoiled milk.

CUSTOMER
Why not?

CASHIER
I don't know, it's a liability issue, I guess. We don't want people drinking bad milk and then getting sick and suing us.

CUSTOMER
Well I won't sue. I just want to buy this milk for like 45 cents.

CASHIER
We can't do that.

CUSTOMER
Well what are you going to do with the milk?

CASHIER
We're just going to throw it out, we can't be selling milk like this.

CUSTOMER
Why not? If someone is willing to pay you can, right? It's basically your moral obligation working within a capitalist society, isn't it?

CASHIER
I don't think so.

CASHIER
Look, I've got 67 cents in pocket change. That's more than I wanted to spend--

CASHIER
I couldn't sell this spoiled milk for any price.

CUSTOMER
Do you have any idea what I'm paying in rent? It's outrageous!

CASHIER
I can sympathize, but--

CUSTOMER
It's not even that bad. Just because it's past the date doesn't mean it's necessarily spoiled.

CASHIER
It's curdled.

CUSTOMER
Look, this is a waste of my time. Just sell me the fucking milk.

CASHIER
I can't do that. And now I'm holding the milk, so I'm not going to give it bad to you.

...

CUSTOMER
You're going to throw it out?

CASHIER
Yes.

CUSTOMER
In those dumpsters in the back?

CASHIER
Yes.

CUSTOMER
Maybe you could just put it next to the dumpster.

CASHIER
(sigh)

CUSTOMER
So when do you think you'll get around to throwing that out.

CASHIER
I don't know. Probably in fifteen minutes, before my break.

CUSTOMER
All right, see you then.

CASHIER
Sir, please, no.

CUSTOMER
Peace.
