Full Dr. Branch LePage-penned letter to the editor

[the whole thing actually made the video, astoundingly, but just in case you don't like to squint.]

Here Be Dragons

Lost in all the celebration over the giant crabs ['Giant Crabs Represent Man's Total Understanding Of Nature,' Mar. 8] is the acknowledgment that there are limits to man's capacity to understand and control the world around him. Man is a beast capable of great beauty—in art, thought and deed—but he is a beast nonetheless, with no more power over life or death than the other animals.

We must be very careful to never allow our hubris to make us think we can hope to control nature. Just because we are capable of great scientific accomplishments does not always mean those goals are a priori worthy of being pursued. At the far reaches of our collective knowledge, there are the advancements that will push the boundaries of our shared wisdom outward for the better, and those forbidden things that will someday destroy us.

I can only hope this message reaches sympathetic eyes before it is too late.
