Ben Standup

Ben Standup

DATE: 2005.
GENRE: Stand-Up Comedy.
THOSE INVOLVED: Ben.
INTEREST TO THOSE INVOLVED: 10/10.
INTEREST TO THOSE NOT INVOLVED: 8/10.
COMMENTS: In November of 2004, I began performing stand-up. Among my earliest supporters was Ben, who could always be depended upon to heap scorn on my infamous Ambulance joke every time we passed an emergency vehicle on the street and provide me with unsolicited advice. Advice such as: make fun of homeless people more.

Fall of 2005, BU announced that they would be holding a stand-up competition to find the campus's funniest student. Ben had written a few jaw-droppingly terrible jokes and we encouraged him to join. He knew, of course, that his set was an absolute disaster and that he would absolutely bomb. He signed up anyway. Somehow, the results were more glorious than we could have expected. See him drop a casual racial slur! See the bold observational comedy of the John Stamos bit, in which he simply makes several observations without a joke! See him pointlessly drop my name just to aggravate me, in a move that may have cost me a trip to the second round (I mean, not really, but there's got to be some reason I lost to Phil Eye)! See George Sherman University!

Also, see the judges give their professional assessments. Especially the first girl, who calls him "comfortable on stage" and (...) "REALLY SINCERE." Good Lord.

Anyway, this is so much fun to watch, in that it is both brutal and incredibly ballsy.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I have only heard of this -- never seen it. It really is better than I could have dreamed.
