Improbably, today marks five full years since my first tentative steps into Blog-World. Did I think it would last five years? I don't even think I expected to live five years, so this marks a victory on two fronts.
As always, all credit for this accomplishment, howsoever dubious, goes not to me, but to YOU, the reader. Yes, just a few years after winning Time's Person Of The Year, you are receiving an honor here today no less distinguished. For it is the knowledge that you are out there, silently judging with every post published, that keeps me on my toes, and keeps me blogging, even when it seems like I would rather be doing literally anything else in the world. Whatever keeps you here -- the Marmadukes, the inertia, the itch of obligation, the masochism -- I thank you for staying, and hope every post (or so) satisfies at least one of those impluses.
By now, you might be asking yourself, "wait, why am I still here?" Well, if you're still not sure, be sure to check out the new Best Of: Year 5 label, and remember The Year That Was in all its hastily-written, nonsensical glory. And the other four years received their much-needed annual pruning, so they're even more readable than ever!
Sincere thanks again for reading. It is truly appreciated. And now -- onward to year six!
